Thomas Hargis

Thomas Hargis, 67, passed away on Jan. 2 at his home. Funeral services were held Jan. 4 at the chapel of Goff Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Allen and Rev. Eugene McCowan officiating. Interment followed in the Whittaker Cemetery.

Thomas Hargis was born on Sept. 2, 1944 in Overton County to the late Roy and Erma Swallows Hargis. He was a member of the Monterey Second Freewill Baptist Church and retired from Buttram’s Building Supply in Monterey.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Christine Powell and brother Owie B. Hargis.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Myrtle Ledbetter Hargis of Monterey; daughters, Judy and husband Steve Phillips of Monterey and Linda and husband Billy Brown of Milton, FL; grandchildren, David Booher, Philip Booher, Dana Raines and Bruce Phillips; three great-grandchildren; sister, Rosie Mae Brown of Algood; and brothers, Voyd Hargis and Roger Hargis both of Monterey.

Helen Carmack Tucker

Helen Carmack Tucker, 92, passed away on Jan. 3 at her home. Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at Clinton First Baptist Church. Interment followed Jan. 7 at Good Hope Cemetery.

Helen Carmack Tucker was born April 21, 1919 in Overton County to the late James Robert and Dora Etta Hawkins Carmack. She moved to Clinton in 1959 with her husband, Hearly Tucker and two children. She was a homemaker and member of Clinton First Baptist Church for 53 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Martha Belle Mottler, Ruth Poston, and Jessie Rose Ramsey; and a brother, Raymond Carmack.

Surviving relatives include: son, Dr. Mark Tucker of Tampa, FL; daughter, Sherry Tucker Wilson of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Kimberlee Tucker Bode of Orlando, FL, Timothy Mark Tucker of Bradenton, FL, Emily Ann Wilson and Evan Tucker Wilson of both Birmingham, AL; great-grandchildren, William Mark Bode and Robert David Bode both  of Orlando, FL and Madison Ann Starowesky of Bradenton, FL; sisters, Lorene Buck and Lydia Wilkinson of Anderson, IN; brother, William Cornelius Carmack of Livingston, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry White

Jerry White, 70, of Cookeville passed away on Jan. 3 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services were held on Jan. 6 at the chapel of Hall Funeral Home in Livingston with Bro. Marlon Winningham officiating. Interment followed at the White Cemetery in Overton County.

Jerry White was born Jan. 4, 1941 in Overton County to the late Edgar and Lela (Norris) White. He served in the US Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles White, Roy White, Tommy White, Troy White, E.B. White and James White; and sister, Mary White.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Reita White; daughter, Christy Kowalski and husband Dan; sister, Clara Jean Reid; brother, Billy Joe White; grandson Payton; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Lorine M. Martin

Lorine M. Martin, 77, of Livingston passed away on Jan. 3 at the Overton County Nursing Home. Funeral Services were held Jan. 6 at the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home in Livingston with Bro. Benton Ramsey officiating. Interment followed at the Good Hope Cemetery.

Lorine M. Martin was born on Dec. 29, 1934 in Overton County to the late Dewey and Glen (Holman) Fletcher.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Joe Edward Martin.

Surviving relatives include: son, Mike Martin of Cookeville; daughters, Shirley Lane and husband John of Cookeville and Mary Lockman and husband Daryl of Colorado; sisters, Eugene Hughes, Betty Staggs, Charlene Johnson, and Margaret Johnson; brother, Jimmy Fletcher; grandchildren, Tracey Manor, Jason Lane, Circa Momogerty and Josh Martin; and six great grandchildren.

Bobby Joe Loftis

Bobby Joe Loftis, 69, of Rickman, passed away on Jan. 4 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Jan. 8 at the chapel of Hall Funeral Home. Interment followed at the West Cemetery in Cookeville.

Pallbearers were Robert (Bo) Loftis, Brian Loftis, Ricky Loftis, Andrew Loftis, Dennis Loftis, and Jamie Emerton.

Bobby Joe Loftis was born Oct. 17, 1942 in Jackson Co., to the late Walter and Edna Loftis.

 Surviving relatives include: wife, Helen Francis Loftis; sons, Robert (Bo) Loftis and wife Alison, Brian Loftis, Ricky Loftis and wife Jennifer; step-sons, Steven Garrett and wife Tammy and Scott Garrett; sisters, Roanna Bryant and husband Bill, Marie Cantrell and husband Robert, and Vicky Poston and husband Ricky; brother, Don Loftis and wife Pat; grandchildren, Julie Briggs and husband Bobby, Andrew Loftis, Riley Loftis, Cassidy Garrett, and Gage Garrett; great grandchildren, Evan Briggs, Kayliegh Briggs, and Ayden Loftis; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Betty Jo Dotson

Retired Machine Operator

Betty Jo Dotson, 76, of White Bluff, passed away on Jan. 5 at NHC Health Care. Funeral Services were held on Jan. 8 at the Chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Smartt officiating. Interment followed at the Williams Cemetery.

Betty Jo Dotson was born in Overton County and was the daughter of the late Tom and Molly McDonald. She was a retired Machine Operator for the U.S. Tobacco Company and was of the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her son Paul Dwight Peterman.

Survivors include: her son, Doug Peterman of White Bluff; daughter, Robbie Long and her husband Brooks of White Bluff; brother, Ted McDonald of Texas; grandchildren, Angel Dotson of Dickson, Melinda Dotson of Dickson, Rebecca Dyer of Ohio; great grandchildren, Trey Lewis, Layla Lawrence and Zane Primm.

Reba Mae (Brown) Deck

Beautician

Reba Mae (Brown) Deck, 90, passed away on Jan 6 at the Overton County Nursing Home. Funeral Services were held Jan. 8 at the Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Aron Dillon officiating. Interment followed at Okolona Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Burchfield, Ron Burchfield, Ryan Burchfield, Michael Brown, Carlan Brown, and Rick Brown.

Reba Mae (Brown) Deck was born on July 31, 1921 in Overton County. She was a beautician and a member of the Eastern Star.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, James and Lou Brown; husband, Clyde Deck; her daughter Lucille Spivey, her infant son, Howard Deck; three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include: daughters, Carolyn Burchfield and husband David of Livingston and Geneva Riebly of Beaver Creek, OH; grandchildren, Eric Riebly, Cindy Spivey, Ryan Burchfield, Mindy Burchfield and Steven Burchfield; and ten great grandchildren.

Georgia Muriel McPeak

Georgia Muriel McPeak, 81, passed away on Jan. 2 at the Overton County Nursing Home. Funeral Services were held on Jan. 4 at the Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. John Preece officiating. Interment followed at the Eckel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Don Copeland, Ed Copeland, Gordon Copeland, Billy Copeland, Logan Clark, Randy Cassidy, and Brent Philpot. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Copeland and Maurice Copeland.

Georgia Muriel McPeak was born on Jan. 17, 1930 in Overton County. She was a homemaker, a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Sulphur Community Church.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, Elgin and Florence McPeak.

Survivors include: her cousins, Norma Jean Gorman, Jannie Bleuel, Gordon Copeland, Ed Copeland, Marie Philpot, Maurice Copeland, Carol Copeland, Kenneth Copeland, Bobby Copeland, Billy Copeland, Heidi Brown, Debbie Copeland, Don Copeland and Randy Cassidy.
