Martha L. Scantland, 75, of Gainesboro passed away on Feb. 19 at Mabry Health Care Center in Gainesboro. Funeral services were held on Feb. 22 at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Anderson, Bro. Mike Dennis and Bro. Larry Rhoten officiating. Interment followed in the Peek Cemetery.

Martha L. Scantland was born on Jan. 6, 1937 in Jackson County. She was a factory worker and a member of the Burristown Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, Claude and Arie B. Dawes; brothers, Austin, Vesper, Claudine, Lewis and Bobby Dawes.

Surviving relatives include: her husband, George Ed Scantland of Gainesboro; brother, Elmer Dawes and wife, Faye of Gainesboro; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Christopher Kelly Hunter

Christopher Kelly Hunter, 35, of Wartburg passed away on Feb. 17 in Smith County. Funeral services were held on Feb. 20 at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Sam Mainord and Bro. Frank Price officiating. Interment followed in the Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery.

Christopher Kelly Hunter was born on Nov. 8, 1976 in Jackson County. He was an electrician, a member of Local 270 IBEW in Oak Ridge and a member of the Family Worship Center in Stephens.

He is preceded in death by: his maternal grandparents, Archie and Avo Kilmon; and his paternal grandfather, Buford Hunter.

Surviving relatives include: his son, Christopher Ryan Hunter of Manchester, daughter, Lillijan Viola Hunter of Wartburg; mother of his daughter, Veronica Hunter of Wartburg; father, Doug Hunter and wife, Robin of Gainesboro; mother, Genivieve Kilmon of Cookeville; grandmother, Dorothy Hunter of Gainesboro; brothers, Brandon Hunter of Smyrna and Max Hunter of Gainesboro; and sister, Meghan Hunter of Gainesboro.

Ronald A. Matthews

Ultrasound Tech

Ronald A. Matthews, 79, of Whitleyville passed away on Feb. 18. A memorial service was held on Feb. 24 at Cookeville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Ronald A. Matthews was born on Jan. 28, 1933 in Brookfield, IL to Albert Matthews and Jean Knoblock. He was an ultrasound tech for ten years and was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Charmaine Matthews of Whitleyville; son, Scott Matthews of Gainesboro, daughter, Kimberly Escobedo of Clearwater, FL; grandsons, Benjamin and Jacob Matthews; granddaughters, Alicia, Elizabeth and Leah Escobedo; and great-grandsons, Killian and Declan Matthews.

Johnny Lane Wilson

Johnny Lane Wilson, 37, of Whitleyville passed away on Feb. 20 at Livingston Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held on Feb. 22 at Cubb Creek Cemetery with Bro. O’Neal Huffines and Bro. Danny Huffines officiating. Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Johnny Lane Wilson was born on Feb. 25, 1974 in Nashville. He was a roofer and a member of the Beech Grove Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by: his father, Robert S. Wilson and brother, Robert “Stevie” Wilson, Jr.

Surviving relatives include: sons, Aaron Payne Wilson and Steven Ray Wilson, both of Livingston; mother, Shirley Ann Wilson of Whitleyville; and several uncles, aunts and other relatives and friends.

Roger Neal Stafford

Roger Neal Stafford, 54, of Gainesboro passed away on Feb. 21 in Gainesboro. Funeral services were held on Feb. 24  at the Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Interment followed at the Pharris Cemetery.

Roger Neal Stafford was born on Oct. 16, 1957 in Jackson County and was a factory worker.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roger Lee Stafford and Mable Irene Stafford.

Surviving relatives include: uncles, Ralph Stafford of Donelson; Ray Stafford and wife Bunie of Gainesboro; and Eugene Stafford and wife Margaret of Gainesboro; aunts, Faye Reeves of Nashville and Brenda Stafford of Old Hickory; and several cousins and friends.

Arthur L. Freed

Arthur L. Freed, 80, of Cookeville passed away on Feb. 23 at Masters Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Feb. 26 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Birdwell officiating. Interment followed at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

Arthur L. Freed was born on April 26, 1931 in Connellsville, PA. He was a member of the Collegeside Church of Christ and worked as a bookkeeper for 45 years.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, Grace (McElhaney) and George Freed; son, Art Freed, Jr.; grandson, Joshua Whalen; brother, George Freed, Jr.; and sister Peggy Mathias.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Dora C. Freed of Cookeville; daughters, Carrie Boots and husband Jeff of Fombell, PA; Janilee Macri and husband Dan of Butler, PA; and Michelle Carter and husband Leonard of Cookeville; sons, Maurice Freed and wife Liz of Pennsylvania and George Freed of Elwood City, PA; granddaughters, Jessica, Ashley and Rebekah Carter all of Cookeville; Katie Lutz and husband John, Lydia Lutz and husband Jay all of Ellwood City, PA and Jennifer Wright and husband Alan of Jacksonville, FL; grandsons, Spencer Freed and wife of Tracey of Ellwood City, PA; Nathan Carter of Cookeville; Scott Egleston of Ellwood City, PA; brother, Harold Freed and wife Jean of New Castle, PA; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Willard Andrew Roberts, Sr.

Willard Andrew Roberts, Sr., 56, of Gainesboro passed away on Feb. 20 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Feb. 25 at Jackson County Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Throckmorton officiating. Interment followed at West Side Cemetery.

Willard Andrew Roberts, Sr. was born on Sept. 7, 1955. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, Helen and Millard Roberts; former wife Barbara Sells; and granddaughter, Alexandria Roberts.

Surviving relatives include: son, Andy Roberts and wife Mepoe of Livingston; daughter, Diane Chilton of Livingston; sisters, Sue Ann Johnson and husband Quin of Houston, TX; Joe Ann Berkley and husband Kenneth of Baxter; and Cathy Mott and husband Donald of Baxter; brother, Doug Roberts of Louisiana; grandson, Ethan Chilton of Livingston; special friend, Pearl Richardson of Gainesboro; step-son, John Scott of Gainesboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Reba Jean Barlow

Reba Jean Barlow, 61, of Hilham passed away on Feb. 21 at Livingston Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held on Feb. 23 at the Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Jason Barlow officiating. Interment followed at the New Hope Cemetery.

Reba Jean Barlow was born on Dec. 6, 1950 in Overton County and was a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, James Clyde and Gladys Ray Dishman Gore; son, Anthony Bruce “Amp” Barlow; and brothers, Dennis Carl Gore and James Ray Gore.

Surviving relatives include: her husband, Bruce Barlow of Hilham; son Matthew Barlow and wife Kelly of Livingston; daughters, Denise Scott and her fiancé Carl Fox and Lora Smith and husband Greg, all of Hilham; grandchildren, Daylan Smith, Brayden Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Ethan Barlow, Evan Barlow, Ellex Barlow, Lillian Barlow, Noah Barlow and Jacob Hawkins; brothers, Donald Keith Gore and wife Vicky and Clifford Dewayne Gore and wife Ranee, all of Hilham; and sister-in-law, Gail Gore of Hilham.
