Sidney Taylor Jr., 80, of Gainesboro passed away on May 14 at the Mabry Health Care Center. Graveside services were held on May 16 at Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery with Bro. Fabron Nicholson officiating.

Sidney Taylor Jr. was born Sept. 17, 1931 in Houston, TX. 

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Sidney Taylor Sr. and Mertle Taylor Cordell.

Surviving relatives included: his brothers, David Cordell of Gainesboro and Wade Cordell of Texas; sisters, Betty Jean Taylor and Carolyn Taylor of Texas; and aunt, Ruby Gordon of Wiggins, MS.

Herman Ray Spivey Sr.

Herman Ray Spivey Sr., 89, of McMinnville passed away on May 16 at River Park Hospital. Funeral services were held on May 20 at First Baptist Church in McMinnville with Rev. John May officiating. Interment followed in Mt. View Cemetery.

Herman Ray Spivey Sr. was born May 2, 1923 in Davidson County. He received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of South Carolina while enrolled in the Navy unit during W.W.II. He was employed at TVA in Chattanooga, Cumberland Lumber and Manufacturing Company where he served many years as president and chairman of the board, National Oak Flooring Manufacturers Association as president, radio broadcasting at two radio stations serving as president, a director of City Bank and Trust Company, member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Rotary Club which he was president. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow Rotary Foundation.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Herman Roscoe and Minnie Barnes Spivey; and sister, Rozelle Spivey Wilson.

Surviving relatives included: his wife, Mary Summer Spivey of McMinnville; children, Dr. Elizabeth Spivey of Yankton, SD, Sandra Kilgore of Greenback and Ray Spivey Jr. of McMinnville; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
