Mary Nell Garrett

Mary Nell Garrett, 99, of Livingston passed away June 23 at the Overton County Nursing Home. Funeral services were held June 26 at the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Overton officiating. Interment followed in the Okolona Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Jimmy Kirby, Jason Kirby, Travis Tolley, Keith Wilson, Michael Adam and Sal Addotta.

Mary Nell Garrett was born Sept. 16, 1912 in Overton County. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sallie Hayes Dial; husband, Robert Bethel Garrett; son, Robert Charles Garrett; daughters, Deborah Fields and Sallie Mae Owen; granddaughters, Cynthia Mobbs and Terri Bryant; six brothers and three sisters.

Surviving relatives include her daughters, Ann Combs of Smyrna and Marie Wilson of Antioch; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Leonard Alpheaus Heard

Maintenance

Leonard Alpheaus Heard, 76, of Rickman passed away June 27 at his home. Funeral services were held June 29 at the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Pastor Chris McMichael.

Leonard Alpheaus Heard was born April 16, 1936 in Overton County. He worked maintenance with Twin Lakes Telephone Cooperative and was a member of the Jehovah Witnesses Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Cordia Mullins Heard; brother, Thurman Dewey Heard; and sister, Sylvia Heard.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Evelyn Heard of Rickman; daughter, Sandy Butler of Rickman; step-daughter, Judy Langford of Livingston; brother, William Kennard Heard of Rickman; sister, Mary Ethel Hall, of Livingston; grandchildren, Martha Ogletree, Samantha Dingwall, Joshua Savage and William Langford; and nine great-grandchildren.

Edward Cordell Smith

Edward Cordell Smith, 81, of Livingston passed away June 20 at the Livingston Clinic. Memorial services were held June 23 at the chapel of Hall Funeral Home of Livingston. The family chose cremation.

Edward Cordell Smith was born April 12, 1931 in Overton County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barlow and Martha Carmack Smith.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Smith of Livingston; daughter, Angie Krantz and husband Tony of Monterey; sons, Steve Smith and wife Pamela of Rosville, CA and David Edward Smith and wife Tammy of Rickman; sister, Melba Puritt of Dandridge; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Odell Swann

Retired School Teacher

Odell Swann, 83, of Cookeville passed away June 25 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held June 28 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Joe Roberts and Bob Farris officiating. Interment followed in Crest Lawn Cemetery.

Active pallbearers: Gerald Buckmaster, Alan West, Robert Gribble, Harold Randolph, H.C. Wilson and Johnny Looper.

Honorary pallbearers: Max Johnson, Joe H. Wilson, Harry Glazier and the elders and deacons of Collegeside Church of Christ.

Odell Swann was born July 27, 1928. She graduated Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Education, a retired schoolteacher of more than 50 years, a member of Collegeside Church of Christ and a talented and passionate seamstress and quilter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bale Alonza and Lou Breeding Looper; husband, Wayne Fleming Swann; granddaughter, Rebecca Louise Craighead; brothers and sister-in-law, Joseph Hunter Looper and Gilbert and Allene Looper.

Surviving relatives include her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Phil Craighead; special granddaughters, Rachel Craighead and Emily Craighead of Cookeville; devoted cousin, Ann Karch; close friend, Laquanah Crowder; and many friends, fellow teachers and former students.

Allie Ruth Goney

Retired

Allie Ruth Goney, 78, of Algood passed away June 24. Funeral services were held June 27 at the Algood Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Bond, Pastor Eddie Turner and Pastor Jack Homesley officiating. Interment followed in the Sand Springs Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Shannon Smith, Justin Randolph, Christian Smith, Dustin Whitefield, Slade Dale, Layne Dale, Charles Tolbert and Rick Smith.

Honorary pallbearers: Tutco Associates, Sue Eldridge, Brad and Rachel Cross, Charles Carr, Sam Warren, Highland Rim Home Health, Caris Hospice, Dr. John Nadeau and Dr. Audrey Tolbert.

Allie Ruth Goney was born Dec. 10, 1933 in Smith County. She was a retired associate with Tutco with 26 years of service and attended Algood Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Charles Alexander and Emma Hatfield Robinson; husband, Walter H. Goney; sister, Clara Linville; brother, Alex Robinson and sons-in-law, Randall K. Lynn and Chester Finley.

Surviving relatives include her daughters and son-in-law, Rita Finley of Cookeville and Shawna and Bryan Whitefield of Algood; son and daughter-in-law, Walt and Lynne Goney of Huntersville, NC; grandchildren, Shannon and wife Bridget Smith, Wendy and husband Carl Dale, Justin and wife Stephanie Randolph all of Cookeville, Dustin Whitefield of Algood and Stacey Craig of Huntersville, NC; great-grandchildren, Christian Smith, Ali Smith, Slade Dale, Layne Dale, Blake Randolph, Brayden Randolph, Bryant Randolph, Dawson Craig, Joannie Loftis and Kelly Teague; brother, Bob Robinson of Cookeville; sisters-in-law, Pearl Robinson of Rickman and Dean Goney of Cookeville.

Henry Leo Beechboard, Sr.

Henry Leo Beechboard, Sr., 78, of Allons passed away June 27 at his home. Funeral services were held June 28 at the chapel of Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with Bro. Eugene McCowan officiating. Interment followed in the Overton County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Russell Gray, Dewayne Killmon, Wayne Beechboard, Bobby Beechboard, Randy Gore, Travis Gore and Josh Choate.

Henry Leo Beechboard, Sr. was born Jan. 27, 1934 in Jackson County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bedford and Erma (Lynn) Beechboard; son, Henry Leo Beechboard, Jr.; and sister, Virginia Killmon.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Virginia I. Beechboard; sisters, Ruby Gore, Georgie Gray and Betty Thompson; brothers, Junior Beechboard, Woodrow Beechboard, Tommy Beechboard, Bill Beechboard and Kenneth Beechboard.

Edward Lee Wright

Management

Edward Lee Wright, 49, of Rocklin, CA passed away June 20 in Roseville, CA. Memorial service was held June 30 at the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Nolan Cantrell officiating. Interment followed in Overton County Memorial Gardens.

Airman First Class Jacob Wright carried the cremains.

Edward Lee Wright was born Jan. 5, 1963 in Battle Creek, MI. He worked in management in an engineering firm and was affiliated with the Bayside Church in Granite Bay, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Oral and Inez Naomi Norris Wright.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Kathy Wright of Rocklin, CA; sons, Airman First Class Jacob Wright, Travis Air Force Base, CA; daughter, Sara Wright, Rocklin, CA; and several other family and friends. 

Clara B. Hunter

Head Start Program

Clara B. Hunter, 84, of Allons passed away July 1 at Livingston Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held July 3 at the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Alan Judd. Interment followed in the Hunter Cove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Herman Stanfill, Drew Handy, Dakota Handy, Chris Hammock, Dale Johnson and Barry Ledbetter.

Clara B. Hunter was born Sept. 10, 1927 in Overton County. She worked with the Head Start Program, was a member of Allons Church of Christ and a member of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arland and Carmon Sells Johnson; husband, T.D. Hunter; son, Tommy Hunter; and brother, Coy Johnson.

Surviving relatives include her daughters, Vivian and husband Roger Hall of Cookeville and Cathy and husband Gary Handy of Rickman; sisters, Clema Hunter and husband Claudis of Allons and Catherine Willis and husband Gene Willis of Allons; special friend, Floyd Cooper; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
