Billy Joe Burgess, 73, passed away Nov. 9 at NHC of Cookeville. Memorial service was held Nov. 17 at Helen’s Restaurant in Gainesboro.

Billy Joe Burgess was born Oct. 18, 1939 in Putnam County. He had many trades that he was very good at but was known as an excellent plumber.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sherman Burgess and Mary Vinson Burgess.

Surviving relatives include son Billy Joe Jr and wife Rhonda Burgess of Cookeville; grandchildren Bill Joe Burgess III and Lindsey Burgess also of Cookeville; aunt Vera Vinson Cumby of Cookeville; special cousin Helen Bellar of Gainesboro and many more cousins, friends and family members.

James “David” Anderson

Airplane Mechanic

James “David” Anderson, 70, passed away Nov. 9 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral services were held Nov. 12 at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Honeycutt officiating. Interment followed at Pharris Cemetery with full military honors.

James “David” Anderson was born Feb. 3, 1942 in Detroit, MI. He was an airplane mechanic, attended Zion Church of Christ and served in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Viola Bowman Anderson; paternal grandparents Bedford and Lola Anderson and maternal grandparents Dillard and Dovie Bowman.

Surviving relatives include his wife Spring Rector Anderson of Gainesboro; son Jeff and wife Jerri Ann Anderson of Gainesboro; daughters Tracy Dawn Anderson and her partner Holly Ann Buechler of Yakima, WA, Roxanne and husband Tom Geesling of Hilham and Elaine and husband Stephen South of Cookeville; 11 grandchildren; sister Pat and husband Frazier Medlin of Cookeville and several uncles, aunts, other relatives and friends.

Helen Hix Browning

Factory Worker

Helen Hix Browning, 77, passed away Oct. 24 in Fairland, IN. Funeral services were held Oct. 26 at Murphy Parks Funeral Service and Co. in Shelbyville, IN with Rev. Steve Smith officiating.

Helen Hix Browning was born Jan. 31, 1935 in Jackson County. She worked at Hoosier Gasket Company from 1967-1999. One hobby she enjoyed was fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dewey Hix and Mary Odell Warden Hix; son Steve Browning and  sisters Jewell Dean Carrico and Ovell Kinnard.

Surviving relatives include by her son Mark and wife Jill Browning; Rhonda and husband David Billman; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers James and wife Ova Hix, Charlie and wife Pat Hix, Larry and wife Jane Hix, Gary and wife Veda Hix and Bobby Hix; and sisters Sue and husband Don Smith, Barbara and husband Harding Smith, Donna and husband Bobby Poteet and Debbie and husband Terry Holman.
