Due to large amounts of rainfall and increasing water, several people were caught in a flood at Cummins Fall State Park on Wednesday.
Rescue efforts began immediately by land, water and air from many different rescue personnel. Within minutes, a large amount of water came down the falls causing many people to be trapped on rock outcroppings and some to be swept down the waterway. Around 40 people were in danger due to the extreme rising on the waters coming off of Cummins Falls. Rescue efforts continued for several days after the flooding as to the location of a 73-year-old woman who remained missing when all others had been safely removed from the area.
