Cherry Ramsey, R.N., CVICU clinical coordinator and charge nurse at Cookeville Regional, was awarded the Sydney and Helen Shuman Nurse Recognition Award this past July by Mended Hearts. The Mended Hearts organization recognizes the dedication and heartfelt support that nurses offer to heart patients during treatment and the recovery process. This award is given to the nurses who make a positive difference in their care and presence.
After graduating from Tennessee Technological University School of Nursing, Cherry embarked her twenty-nine year nursing career. In 1997, Cherry worked with the cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and other nurses to create a unit specific to cardiac patients with specialized nurses in the field of cardiac care. It soon became evident that the skilled practices of this unit could help other nurses better serve their patients.
