On Dec. 3 an accident on Hwy. 56 left one injured. Tommy Ward, 65, of Gainesboro, who was driving a 2009 Ford F-650 was traveling south on State Route 56 in Jackson County when a 1995 Dodge Dakota driven by Sammie Worthington, 75, of Gainesboro turned in front of Ward causing him to crash into her truck near the driver’s side door. Worthington was attempting to make a left turn off of Birch St. onto SR 56 when she failed to yield the right of way, which caused Ward to crash into her. Worthington’s airbag deployed. Worthington was injured in the accident and taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Ward was able to bring his vehicle to a controlled stop in the turning lane of the roadway facing south. Worthington came to final rest in the northbound lanes facing north. Investigating the accident was THP Trooper Ruben Basaldua.
