Bro. O’Neal Huffines
Bro. O’Neal Huffines, 87, of Gainesboro passed away on Jan. 5 at his residence. Funeral services were held Jan.9 at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Hubert Jones and Bro. Matthew Scoggins officiating. Interment followed in the Draper Cemetery in the Wartrace Community.
He was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Jackson County. He was a retired banker, cattle farmer, Church of Christ Minister and was a member of the Cubb Creek Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by parents, Curry Huffines and Madge Draper Huffines; wife, Jerldine Forkum Huffines; brother, Harold Draper Huffines; and sisters, Eva West and Margaret Juanita Richardson.
Surviving relatives include: sons, Danny Neal (Gail) Huffines of Gainesboro and Glen Draper Huffines of Crossville; daughters, Sheila Ann (Benny) Carlton of Gallatin, Madge Eulan (Rob) Reynolds of Acworth, GA and Amanda Jois (Matthew) Scoggins of Gainesboro; grandchildren, Patrick (Sheila) Huffines, Kristi (Greg) Crawford, Heather (Trent) Thomas, Elizabeth (Blake) Marksberry, Jeremy (Kayla) Reynolds, Megan Reynolds, Adrianna Scoggins, Micah Scoggins and Abigail Scoggins; sister, Patsy (Harold) Denton of Maryland; 10 great grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mary Jo Ford
Mary Jo Ford, 50, of Gainesboro passed away Jan. 9, at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. Funeral services were held Jan. 11 at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Dow Allen officiating. Interment followed in the Dodson Branch Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 26, 1968 in Gallatin. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by parents, Buddy Joe Ford and Mary Ann Woodard.
Surviving relatives include step father, Donald Woodard of Watertown; sister, Tabitha S. Whittenburg of Bethpage; niece Stephanie Cantrell; nephew, Stephen Parker Cantrell; and two aunts and two uncles.
Mabel Christine Mathis
Mabel Christine Mathis, 84, of Gainesboro, passed away suddenly Jan. 10 at her residence. Funeral services were held at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home on Sat., Jan. 12, 2019 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Randy Heady officiating. Interment followed in the Rob Draper Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Jackson County, Tenn. She was a nurse and spent the majority of her career working at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio. She loved gardening and simply enjoying the beauty of the mountains and rivers around her home in Jackson County. She was a fierce and loyal wife, mother and grandmother and best friend. She was well read and progressive in her thinking, providing a wealth of information, guidance, and unconditional love to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burton Meadows and Jessie Meadows; her husband, Joe Oliver Mathis; and brother, Willard Meadows.
Surviving relatives include her daughter, Betty (Joseph) Herold of Gainesboro, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Joseph (Tiffany) Herold of Gainesboro, Tenn. and Erica Herold of Sonoma, Calf.
