Dr. James Smith
Dr James Smith, 83, of Cookeville, passed away April 21, near his farm in Overton County. Funeral services were held April 26 at Cookeville First Baptist Church with Pastor Scott McKinney officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Cookeville City Cemetery.
He was born April 14, 1936, in Cookeville. He served in the U.S. Army, was active in many sports and while in college placed first in his class seven quarters out of twelve.
He was preceded in death by parents, Howard and Tena Taubert Smith; sons, James Michael “Mike” Smith and Christopher “Chris” Lee Smith; and brother, Dr. Curt Smith.
Surviving relatives include: wife, Margaret Witt Smith; granddaughter Amanda Adkins and husband, Wade; grandsons, Jared Smith and wife, Beth and William Smith; and great grandson, Hudson Adkins.
Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Denson, 86, of the Roaring River community passed away April 23, at her residence. Funeral services were held April 27, at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Lakelan Barham and Bro. Earl Brazle, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery in the New Hope community.
She was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Jackson County. She worked as a supervisor at Georgia Boot Co., and was a member of the Dudneys Hill Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by parents, Lattie C. Allen and Lucy E. Allen; husband, Freddie G. Denson; step father, Jack Trent; brother, Alton Allen and sister, Nadine Chaffin.
Surviving relatives include: sons, Kenneth (Mary Belle) Denson of Gainesboro and Danny (Diane) Denson of Douglasville, GA; daughters, Kim (Lakelan) Barham of Gainesboro, Pam (Earl, Jr.) Brazle of Lebanon and Christie Banker of Gainesboro; caregiver, Linda Fields; special friend, Regina Poteet; grandchildren. Jamie (Misty) Denson, Kelly (Brandy) Denson, Demesa (Bob) McCoy, Danette Johnson, Dana (Matthew) Tucker and Deanna Denson; and great grandchildren, Hailey Denson, Logan Denson, Robert McCoy, Kayleigh Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, Drake Tucker, Marcus Tucker, Kyleigh Maycen, Jason Brazle, Brooklyn Brazle and Sophia Brazle.
Kennie Chaffin, 68, of Gainesboro, passed away April 24 at his residence. Funeral services were held April 26, at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the Pharris Cemetery in the McCoinsville community.
He was born July 21, 1950, in Gainesboro. He was a truck driver and a member of the Gainesboro First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents, Zeb Chaffin and Aline Chaffin; wife, Vivian Faye Chaffin; paternal grandparents, Patrick and Mary Belle Chaffin; maternal grandparents, Lewis and Mary Bell Martin; nephew, Brad Hopkins; brothers in law, Phillip Keith and Patrick Wright; and special friend, Randy Reeder.
Surviving relatives include: step children, Amanda Earhart and Josh Earhart; brother, Robert (Janice) Chaffin of Gainesboro; sisters, Evelyn Keith and Lamar Dawson of Gainesboro, Irene Chaffin of Gainesboro, Juanita Herron and Champ Ellis of Gainesboro, Patricia and Robert Hopkins of Cookeville, Mary and Ken Denson of Gainesboro; nephews, Robert Gurstel Chaffin, Kelly Denson and Jamie Denson; nieces, Susan Ragland and Ashley Keith; five great nieces; two great nephews; and special friend, Cheryl Flatt.
