Ernest Gene Elkins

Ernest Gene Elkins, 93, of Gainesboro, passed away Jan. 10 at Mabry Health Care Center. Funeral services were held Jan. 13 at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Fox and Bro. Edward Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the Pharris Cemetery in the McCoinsville community.

He was born June 20, 1926 in Jackson County. He worked as a construction secretary at Elk Mt. Construction and was a member of the Gainesboro Church of Christ. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Lewis Elkins and Josie Mae Stafford Elkins; wife, Reba Marie Haney Elkins; and sister, Elise Elkins Bowman.

Surviving relatives include: sons, Tommy Lewis (Susan) Elkins and Donnie (Donna) Elkins, all of Gainesboro; grandchildren, Anna Marie Elkins (Jackson) Moran of Nashville and Andy (Kelly) Elkins of Naples, Fla.; great grandchildren, Riley Marie Moran, Maddox Anderson Elkins, Jackson Reese Moran, Caroline Mae Elkins and Baylor Gray Elkins Moran; step grandchildren, Daniel Taylor (Rachel Nicole) Sutton and Megan Leigh (Ben Lee) Swann; and step great grandchildren, Audrey Kate Sutton, Scarlette Claire Sutton, Campbell Rose Swann, Nora Leigh Swann and Liddie Blane Swann.

Jim “Von” Way

Jim “Von” Way, 83, of Cookeville, passed away Jan. 12 at his residence. Funeral services were held Jan. 16 at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Fox officiating. Interment followed in the Union Hill-Flatt Cemetery on Shepardsville Hwy.

He was born April 26, 1936 in Jackson County. He was the owner of Way’s Custom Shop and made custom draperies. He was a member of the Sycamore Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Bennie Way and Beulah Way; and brothers, Ray Way, Delane Way, Jack Way and Auburn “Ben” Way.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Clara Jean Way of Bloomington Springs; sons, Kim (Sandra) Way of Cookeville, Kerry (Gethyn) Way of Munising, Mich., and Kevin (Lisa) Way of Midland, Mich.; daughter, Brenda (Fred) Bratumil of Novi, Mich.; step daughters, Joy (Gary) Fox of Bloomington Springs and Anita (Danny) Nichols of Cookeville; grandchildren, Janie, Heidi, Rebecca, Molly, Kyle, Trent, Ambre, Katie, Amy, Bryann, Heather, Rachel and Daniel; several great grandchildren; brother, David (Linda) Way of Taylor, Mich.; and sisters, Oneta (Nick) Baggett of Westland, Mich. and Alma (Neal) Chaffin of Gainesboro.

Rickey Dale Long

Rickey Dale Long, 61, of Bloomington Springs, passed away on Jan. 16 at his residence. The family has chosen cremation. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

He was born Nov. 11, 1958 in Jackson County. He worked in the logging industry.

He was preceded in death by: father, Odis Eugene Long; and the mother of his children, Sharon Long.

Surviving relatives include: son, Derek Charles Long of Baxter; daughter, Suzanne Long of Bloomington Springs; mother, Mary Willine Long of Cookeville; brothers, Roger Long of Gainesboro, Ronnie Long of Cookeville and Richard Long of Granville; sister, Rose Long of Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
