In the early morning hours of June 22, an individual decided to vandalize the monument of General Andrew Jackson located on the Courthouse lawn in downtown Gainesboro. It’s unknown why someone would vandalize government property that symbolizes part of Jackson County’s history, but nonetheless they did. Mayor Randy Heady made the statement after the incident that this “will not be tolerated” in our community. “The moment we become aware of the identity of said individual we will prosecute to the fullest extent possible,” stated the Mayor. There are multiple cameras located around the town, and the Gainesboro Police Department is investigating the crime.
