Virgie Nell Guess

Virgie Nell Guess, 95, of Hermitage, passed away July 23 at Lakeshore Heartland in Donelson. Funeral services were held July 25 at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Bilbrey officiating. Interment followed in the Guess Cemetery on Huff Hollow Rd.

She was born Sept. 12, 1924 in Jackson County. She retired from working at the Granville Marina then worked as a caregiver until age 85. She was a member of the Big Branch Church of Christ and then the Liberty Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by: parents, Marlin Tayse and Mary Greenarch Tayse; husband, Dave Guess; daughter, Sherry Guess Warden; step-daughter, Donia Mai Guess; step-sons, Rubin, James, and Charles Guess; brother, Bryan Tayse; and sisters, Flora Mae Hamlet and Alma Jo Morgan.

Surviving relatives include: daughter, Sharon and husband, Dwight Henderson of Hermitage; son in law, Ted Warden of Granville; step-daughters, Lorain Guess, Helen Wade and Juanita Grisham, all of Nashville; grandson, David Warden; granddaughter, Robyn and husband, Chad Mull; great-grandchildren, Colby and Charley Mull; several nieces and nephews; close family friend, Minnie Clemons; three step-granddaughters; 11 step-great-grandchildren, and several great- great-grandchildren.

Larry Wayne Hamlet

Larry Wayne Hamlet, better known as Curly Hamlet, 61, of Gainesboro, passed away July 23 at his residence. Funeral services were held July 27 at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral with Bro. Doug Stafford officiating. Interment followed in the Pharris Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 2, 1958. He was a construction worker, putting stucco on buildings. He also attended the Cummins Mill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Joe and Ruth Christine Biggs Hamlet; four nieces and nephews.

Surviving relatives include: brothers, Danny Joe (Rheta) Hamlet of New Albany, Miss., Donnie Ray (Terisa) Hamlet of Cookeville, Bobby Dale Hamlet of Cookeville, James David (Samantha) Hamlet of Crossville and Tony Lee (Krishina) Hamlet of Gainesboro; sisters, Georgia Faye (Larry) Harper and Teresa Diane Heady, both of Mich.; 14 nieces and nephews; aunt and uncle, Joe and Linda Dailey, and aunt Jewell Raines.

Nettie Ruth Frizzell

Nettie Ruth Frizzell, 77, passed away July 18 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. To honor her wishes she was cremated and a memorial service will be held Aug. 1 at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.

She was born June 12, 1943 in Cobb Hill, Ky. She was an LPN.

She was preceded in death by: parents, Lonnie and Sarah Watson Lee; daughter, Diana Lynn Fullmer; brothers, Charles Lee and Lohris Lee; and grandchildren, Jonathan Clay Anderson and Nicholas Dominic Fullmer.

Surviving relatives include: husband, Chris Frizzell; son Eddie (Victoria) Anderson of Crossville; daughters, Jeanette (Barry) Gore and Shelia (Joey) Knight of Cookeville; sister, Verletta Lee of Bowling Green, Ky.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.

Richard J. Siler

Richard J. Siler, 80, of Gainesboro, passed away July 18 at Livingston Regional Hospital. The family has chosen cremation, with no services at this time.

He was born Oct. 20, 1939 in New Brunswick, N.J. He was a retired USPS Postmaster.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Joseph Siler and Geraldine Bisogno Siler.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Donna McMahon Siler of Gainesboro; sons, Richard Siler of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Robert (Brittany) Siler of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter, Elizabeth (Mike) Stone of Bradenton, Fla.; step-daughter, Karen Swafford of Spanish Fork, Ala.; sister, Geri (Norman) Radway of Syracuse, N.Y.; grandchildren, Cameron Lindflad, Colby Lindflad, Ashley Swafford, Danielle (Nathan) Osborne and Emily Swafford; and great-grandchild, Orne Osborne.

Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ivy Jean Burgess

Ivy Jean Burgess, 39, of Alcoa, passed away July 16 at her residence. Graveside services were held July 18 at Pharris Cemetery with Bro. Duane Gossett officiating.

She was born Feb. 10, 1981 in Jackson County. She was an office worker.

She was preceded in death by: maternal grandfather, Carl Lawson; and paternal grandparents, Warren and Virginia Callahan.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Angela Star Jennings of Alcoa; biological father, Mark Callahan; mother and adoptive father, Suzanne and Lonnie Burgess; brother, John Callahan; sister, Ashley Marengo; step-son, Stephen Ledbetter; paternal grandmother, Rosie Lawson of Gainesboro; step-mother, Delores Callahan; uncle, Michael Steven Lawson of Gainesboro; grandchild, Avery Grace Murr-Ledbetter; and her pet dog, Lu Lu.

Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
