On Aug. 18 Deputy Dillon Sandlin attempted to stop a vehicle in the Gainesboro Grade area of Jackson County when the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed.
During the pursuit, the driver, who was later identified as Christopher Ballard, ran out of the roadway on Plunk Whitson Road in Putnam County. Ballard exited the vehicle and was pursued on foot by Deputy Sandlin. After a physical confrontation, Ballard was able to escape into a creek at which time Deputy Sandlin secured the vehicle and waited on other officers. Putnam County Sheriffs Office, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter along with troopers arrived at the scene.
