The Jackson County Board of Education met in regular session last Thursday and discussed a one-time bonus for teachers.
Director of Schools Kristy Brown said it was necessary to give something to teachers after last year’s raise was cut from the state budget.
Although there was legislation passed recently that would possibly give teachers a 2% raise, Brown stated she did not feel as though it was significant enough.
“It’s not looking like 2% for sure,” Brown said. “I’m glad they were able to do something. Although, I don’t think it’s near significant enough.”
A proposal was made for a $500 one-time bonus for the educational staff, which would be paid out through reimbursed funds.
The vote passed unanimously at Thursday’s meeting.
