Ace Benson

Ace Benson, 68, of Gainesboro, passed away March 4 at his residence. The family has chosen cremation with no services at this time.

He was born May 3, 1952 in Detroit, Mich. He was a bus driver and served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Horace Burton Benson, Sr. and Carrie Brewer Denson; and wife, Janie Benson.

Surviving relatives include: daughters, Jennifer Brown of Livingston and Sabrina Marie Race of Jacksonville, Fla.; step son, Josh Stafford of Gamaliel, Ky.; grandchildren, Benjamin Corey Daniels, Amber Nicole Daniels, Tacie Lynn Brown, Kyle Stephen Race, Justine Elizabeth Race and Austin Lee Race; and a great grandchild.

Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Eddie J. Chaffin

Eddie J. Chaffin, 73, of Jackson County, passed away Feb. 27 at Mabry Healthcare and Rehab. A private family graveside service was held at the Mansell Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 26, 1948 in Jackson County. He was an auto body shop owner and affiliated with the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by: parents, A.J. and Vodle Ballard Chaffin; and wife, Wanda Haney Chaffin.

Surviving relatives include: daughter, Tina (Bo) Davis of Gainesboro; sister, Nola Allen of Cookeville; and grandsons, Jared Bo Davis and Justin A.J. Davis, both of Gainesboro.

Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Betty L. Preis

Betty L. Preis, 82, of Cookeville, passed away March 1 at her residence. Funeral services were held March 4 at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. John Mabery officiating. Interment followed in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Cookeville.

She was born March 31, 1938 in Jackson County. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by: parents, James Ray Ransom and Mattie Lena Mayberry Ransom.

Surviving relatives include: husband, William Lawrence Preis of Delaware; daughters, Vickie Jo Smith Kimball of Greenbrier, Jodi Michelle Preis of Gainesboro and Kim LaRocque of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; brother, James “Chick” Ransom of Gainesboro; sisters, Wanda Rodriguez of Cookeville, Glenda Wishard of Gainesboro and Debbie Herrin of Gainesboro; grandchildren, Justin Kimball and Staci Kimball, both of Greenbrier and Andre LaRocque of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and great grandchildren, Kimber and Kinsley.
