Margaret Louise Locke

Margaret Louise Locke, 82, of Jackson County, passed away March 26 at her residence. Graveside services were held March 28 at John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery with Bro. Hubert Jones and Bro. John D. Sisco officiating.

She was born Aug. 25, 1938 in Jackson County. She was a member of the Cubb Creek Church of Christ and a retired factory worker.

She was preceded in death by: parents, Gus and Sally Chaffin Locke; brothers, Billy, James and Joe Locke; and sister, Christine Locke.

Surviving relatives include: brother-and sister-in-law, Eugene and Ruth Ann Locke of Whitleyville; ten nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Genie Mae Hammock Scott

Genie Mae Hammock Scott, 73, of Jackson County, passed way March 28 at her residence. Graveside services were held April 2 at Pharris Cemetery.

She was born March 23, 1938 in Jackson County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by: parents, Elmer Esters Hammock and Stella Mae Stafford Rhoten; husband, Charles Ward Scott; son, Ronnie Scott; daughters, Angelia Scott; brothers, Bennie Clay Hammock, Michael Hammock, Donnie Hammock and Jackie Hammock; and sister, Debbie Phann.

Surviving relatives include: daughters, Lisa Rivera of Ontario, Calif. and Davenna J. Weathers of Trona, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Amanda Scott of Gainesboro; brother, Jimmy Hammock of Chattanooga; sister Kathy Phann of Gainesboro; and many grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Earl Gene Smith

Earl Gene Smith, 80, of Cookeville, passed away March 28 in Cookeville. Graveside services will be held April 10 at the Old Antioch Cemetery in Jackson County with Bro. Mike Fox officiating. The family has chosen cremation.

He was born Aug. 28, 1940 in Overton County. He worked as a mechanic.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Dawson M. Smith and Josie L. Phillips Smith.

Surviving relatives include: son, Joseph Smith of Cookeville, brother, Raymond Smith of Cookeville; sister, Wanda Sue Owens of Walls, Miss.; and special friend, Janet Little.

Robert Douglas Young

Robert Douglas Young, 82, of the Stone community, passed away March 29 at Mabry Health Care Center. Memorial services will be held April 10 at the New Hope Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Heady officiating. The family has chosen cremation.

He was born April 16, 1938 in Plymouth, Mich. He was a journalist and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by: parents, Donly S. Young and Mabel Garnet Kincaid Young; and brothers, Phillip (Jack) and Donly (Bud) Young.

Surviving relatives include: wife, Dorothy Anne Young of Gainesboro; sons, Scott Sheridan Young of Dunlap and Robert Douglas Young of Spring Lake, Mich.; daughters, Dawn Renee Agee of Cookeville and Kimberly Anne Croisant of Whitleyville; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Deborah Scott

Deborah Scott, 64, of the Whites Bend community, passed away March 22 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held April 10 at 1 p.m. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiating. The family has chosen cremation.

She was born May 15, 1956 in Jackson County. She was a factory worker at Crotty and a member of the Assembly of God.

She was preceded in death by: mother, Anna Pearl Smith; son, Barry Pryor; and brothers, Glenn and Ronnie.

Surviving relatives include: daughter, Amy (Erik) Pryor Baxter of Mt. Juliet; brother, David (Diane) Smith of Whitleyville; sister, Brenda Smith of Cookeville; and grandchildren, Devon Pryor, Samantha Pryor and Brianna Pryor.

Steve Raines

Steve Raines, 69, of Gainesboro, passed away March 31 at his residence. Funeral services were held April 2 at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Haney officiating. Interment followed in the Byers Cemetery.

He was born April 18, 1951 in Jackson County. He was a retired factory worker.

He was preceded in death by: father, Joe Willard Raines; children, Kelly Marlene and Bobby Joe; and brother, Jimmy Raines.

Surviving relatives include: daughter, Cayla Diane Raines of Gainesboro; sister, Jo Ann (Charles) Spurlock of Baxter, Judy Phifer of Sparta and Shirley Allen of Gainesboro; mother, Willene Raines of Gainesboro; grandchildren, Jacaiden and Janiya Smith of Gainesboro; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Jean Young

Mrs. Jean Young of the Chestnut Mound Community died peacefully at 12:46 p.m. Friday afternoon March 26, 2021 at the Quality Center for Rehab and Healing in Lebanon, where she was admitted January 10, 2021 suffering from pulmonary edema. Mrs. Young was 66.

Bro. Jimmy Gregory officiated at the 11 a.m. Monday morning March 29th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

Born Audra Jean Lambert in the Nameless Community of Jackson County on December 13, 1954 she was the only child of the late Andy Gustus Lambert who died at the age of 69 on November 3, 1970 and the late Dolly Marie Lawson Lambert Bingham who died at the age of 83 on November 9, 2011.

She was a 1971 graduate of the Jackson County Central High School in Gainesboro.

In the Shepardsville Community of Jackson County she was united in marriage to Dillards Creek Community native Jesse Earl Young on December 31, 1971. The ceremony was performed by Oather Wheeler.

Before becoming disabled Mrs. Young was a certified Nurse Technician and was employed at the former Quality Care Center in Lebanon.

Mrs. Young was a member of the former Carthage Chapter # 190 Order of the Easter Star.

She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of God.

Surviving in addition to her husband of just over forty nine years is a daughter, Sheena Young of Watertown, and a son Scotty Young and wife, Tracy of the Chestnut Mound Community; two grandchildren, Ty Adam Antle of Algood and KC Austin Clary of Watertown.
