The Town of Gainesboro has been on a four-month search for a new officer, and after their most recent Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting, she has been found.
The hire of Ashley Griggs was approved recently in their regularly scheduled meeting.
According to Police Chief Mike Head, Griggs was the only qualified candidate from Jackson County.
“Hiring someone local who knows the community and its citizens is always a benefit to the department,” he said.
According To Head, Griggs started this week and will hopefully begin training at Walter State Community College soon.
The training program at Walter State is a 10-week program that would cost the city $3,300.
With the city paying for training expenses, an Alderman raised a concern about her commitment to Gainesboro.
Head informed the Alderman that Griggs expressed her commitment to the community during the application process.
