Officials Hear Request For VSO Salary Increase

Members of the Clay County American Legion are making requests to local government officials for an increase in pay for the Veterans Service Officer (VSO), which has recently become open.

The VSO currently serves veterans in both Clay and Jackson County areas. Both Clay and Jackson Counties along with the cities of both Celina and Gainesboro contribute to the role.

Clay and Jackson counties contribute.

The contributions currently make up a salary of $16,600—an equivalent of $7.98 per hour.

Post member Jed Donaldson approached the Celina Board of Mayor and Alderman last Tuesday to request an additional $600 increase in contribution. This would bring their total contribution to $3,000.

The Gainesboro Board of Mayor and Aldermen were met with the same request at their recently held regularly scheduled meeting; however, the request has not yet been approved.

While it has been approved in Celina, Gainesboro will hold a vote in their July meeting.
