If you’ve ever wanted to own a piece of movie memorabilia, now is your chance.
The county is set to auction off the original benches from the 1927 courthouse. The benches were featured in the movie “I Walk the Line”.
Jackson County Mayor Randy Heady said the benches are currently stored in an outbuilding on at the fairgrounds.
“They’re sitting and rotting,” Heady said at the monthly Commission meeting. “They ought to be sold. Somebody, surely, would want to buy those just for nostalgia.”
The Jackson County Board of Commissioners approved the benches to sell at the school board’s sale on Saturday, October 16.
The 1970 movie starring legendary actor Gregory Peck as an aging county sheriff was filmed entirely in Gainesboro and around Center Hill Lake.
