The Open House at Gainesboro Manufacturing Company last Sunday was termed a huge success with more than 3,000 people turning out to see the new plant. According to reports the visitors were tremendously impressed with the beautiful building and its working conditions.

Adding to the success to the Open House were barbecue and soft drinks which were served at the Lon Chaffin’s Lakeview Cafeteria next door to the new plant. Lee Schwartz vice – president and general manager of Gainesboro Manufacturing Company, asked the appreciation to Chaffin and to the people of Jackson County for making the day a big success. He said he and Gainesboro Manufacturing Company appreciate their acceptance into the community and the great response on Sunday.

The reaction of Jackson Countians to the plant was spontaneous, officials stated. Everywhere comments on eh beautiful plant and the overall effort of the company to make working conditions pleasant and comfortable were heard. Comments by the visitors on the quality of materials used in the garments made in the plant were numerous.

During the hours of the Open House members of the office staff conducted the visitors thought the plant.

Among the guests at the affair were Miss Nancy Gore, daughter of Senator Albert Gore of Carthage; Leonard Friedman, vice – president of Colonial Corporation of America; Ben Kary, Sales Manager, Gainesboro mfg. Co, David Schwartz, who has retired after 65 years in the garment industry; and many other executives of Colonial Corporation of America and members of the management of this division.

William Pickens, Southern District Manager, Dears, Roebuck and Co., and Mrs. Pickens wete among those presidents, along with Judge Vernon Carver, W.C. Anderson, Judge Leon Anderson, J.M. Draper, Mayor Ward Draper, Jack Reeves, general manager of Heavy-Duty Mfg. Co. and Dero Brown of Cookeville, Housing Authority of Administrator.
